Optional: Mother Drum Circle
Where space and time allow, we offer a powerful Mother Drum Circle experience centred around the profound sound and presence of a large Powwow Mother Drum.
Gathered together around the drum, participants play in unison using no additional percussion instruments, allowing the full depth of the drum’s natural frequencies and sound waves to be felt as well as heard. The low, resonant tones produced by the large Powwow drum travel through the air and ground alike, creating vibrations that participants often experience physically within the body. It is a sound that truly needs to be experienced firsthand to be fully understood.
Rooted in deep and ancient Native American traditions, the Mother Drum has long been regarded as representing the heartbeat of the Earth — a unifying rhythm bringing communities together in ceremony, connection, and shared intention. The steady pulse of the drum naturally encourages synchronisation between participants, fostering a powerful collective energy within the circle.
Research and sound therapy practices suggest that repetitive rhythmic drumming can support relaxation and wellbeing by encouraging the brain to shift toward slower brainwave states, such as alpha and theta waves. These states are commonly associated with calm focus, creativity, meditation, and emotional balance. As the rhythm continues, many participants report feeling grounded, centred, and deeply present.
The immersive frequencies created by the Mother Drum Circle generate a tribal, meditative atmosphere that transcends language and musical ability. Frequently described as one of the most memorable and transformative moments of a festival or gathering, the experience offers both a connection to ancient traditions and a modern understanding of the healing potential of rhythm, vibration, and shared sound.
