Festival Drum Circles & Shamanic Drumming Workshops

Spirit Groove Drums offers immersive drumming workshops and drum circles for festivals, gatherings, and outdoor events. These sessions are designed to be inclusive, uplifting, and deeply engaging — bringing people together through rhythm, movement, and shamanic drumming.

Our festival drum circles work beautifully as scheduled workshops, drop-in experiences, or headline participatory sessions, and can be adapted to suit the energy, size, and theme of your event.

If you are a festival organiser, event producer, or programme curator, we would love to hear from you.

The Experience

Each drumming workshop is a collective, participatory experience rooted in shamanic drumming traditions, rhythm, and community connection. No prior drumming experience is needed — these sessions are accessible to all ages and abilities.

While the structure may vary slightly depending on time, space, and festival flow, sessions typically last 60 minutes and unfold in two or three organic parts (this can be adapted to suit your program)

Part One: Drumming Meditation & Sound Journey

We often begin with a drumming meditation or sound journey, inviting participants to slow down, ground themselves, and connect with the heartbeat rhythm of the drum.

Participants are guided to relax, breathe deeply, and listen as shamanic frame drums, Mother Powwow drums, and subtle percussive sounds create a powerful sound-bath-style experience. This opening sets the tone, helping the group arrive fully in the moment.

Some participants experience deep relaxation, while others enter meditative or visionary states. The journey may be lightly guided or left entirely to the language of the drums, depending on the setting and energy of the group.

Part Two: Festival Drum Circle & Collective Rhythm

This is the heart of the festival experience — a high-energy, joy-filled drum circle where everyone is invited to take part.

We focus on shamanic drumming and intuitive rhythm, encouraging free expression rather than structured patterns. Participants stand in a circle, improvising rhythms, responding to each other, and building a shared groove.

We use a wide range of instruments including:
•    Shamanic frame drums
•    Djembes & cajóns
•    Shakers, rattles & hand percussion
•    African & Cuban percussion
•    Occasional melodic instruments such as balafon

No musical training is required — the emphasis is on connection, fun, and collective rhythm. People often move, dance, chant, and express themselves naturally as the rhythm builds and evolves.

This section typically lasts 40–60 minutes, depending on the festival schedule.

We can focus the workshop on just playing rather than starting with drumming meditation.
Again this depends on what you wish to offer at your event.

Optional: Mother Drum Circle

Where space and time allow, we can offer a powerful Mother Drum experience.

Participants gather around a large Powwow Mother Drum, playing together with no other percussion — just the deep, resonant heartbeat of the drum. This creates a grounding, tribal, and deeply connective experience that is often remembered as a highlight of the festival.
